Can you set up your own computer?   Of course, you can.

Here are a few tasks we recommend that you perform before going online

1.  Choose and install a good security suite.

  • For Business, one of the following:
    • Norton Internet Security Suite,  much improved over previous Norton versions
    • AVG paid edition
    • eset NOD32, less well known, but very effective.  Uses few system resources.
  • Home users may use free editions of some software:

2.  Imagine what you would do if your computer were stolen.  What data would you miss?

  • Your family photos?
  • Your email address book?
  • Financial data?
  • Your Calendar?

Make a plan to backup your data AUTOMATICALLY.  Backing up manually every once in a while is nearly as bad as not backing up at all. If you don’t know how to do this give us a call.  If you don't know when a backup was done, it wasn't.

3.  Set all your programs for automatic updates.

4.  Secure your wireless network to prevent others from accessing your personal information.  If you are not confident it is secure, it probably is not.

5.  Have copies of all your programs and their product keys, in case you have to re-install them. If you have lost the keys there are recovery programs we can recommend.

6.  If you need help with any of these call us at one of the numbers below.
